Puccini’s taut drama comes to the Independent Theatre in October for a limited season.
Originally set in Rome in June 1800, with Rome threatened by Napoleon’s invasion of Italy, Tosca narrows in on three characters, emotionally and politically bound in desire and betrayal.
When her lover, Cavaradossi, is captured by Rome’s secret police, Floria Tosca is forced to make a deal with police chief Baron Scarpia. But Tosca decides that she will leave nothing to chance when it comes to saving her lover.
Jermaine Chau tests the power of the trombone in her role as a blind (?!) beggar in Offenbach’s The Two Blind Beggars. This rarely performed French comedy gem is directed by Lester Morris and also features Charlotte Merz. Friday 10 July 8pm and Sunday 12 July 4pm, The Independent Theatre, 269 Miller St, North Sydney. Great things happen locally when arts and culture thrive in a community…, vitality, camaraderie, unity.
Opera should challenge, inspire, surprise, and occasionally shake us out of our comfort zones. A night at the opera can push us to see things anew. When opera is performed well, it renews passions and reminds us of the rich complexity and depths of humanity.
